9 myths about palm oil.

We are accustomed to hearing that palm oil is a world evil, which is guilty of all the troubles of Russia. We are told that it causes cancer and cardiovascular diseases that it cannot be eaten in any case that it is impossible to give children a mixture with a palm oil content that they are etched by our brother, because it is cheap … that in sound warnings is true, and that only fictions and journalistic horror stories? Let’s figure out and debunk the nine of the most popular myths about palm oil.

Myth # 1. The oil is squeezed out of palm trees.

As you know, Palma is a tree. Naturally, nothing is squeezed out of the trunk. In fact, oil palm has fruits, from the fleet of which the palm oil is mined, and the kernel is palmoyader.

Even in ancient Egypt 5 thousand years ago, our ancestors mastered this process and used palm oil into food.

Modern palm oil production consists of several stages. Collecting the harvest, fresh fruits of oil palm for 24 hours are transmitted from a plantation to the plant. The resulting clusters of oil palm are guided by sterilization to remove the sera and insects.

Sterilization is carried out with a sharp ferry, which further improves the extraction of oil. Further, the clusters of oil palm are sent to the apparatus for coating, in the process of which fresh fruits are separated, which further come to the next step – the digestion where they are subject to heat treatment in order to improve the release of oil from the plant cell.

Extraction of palm oil is carried out using mechanical pressing on the auger extruder. After pressing, raw palm oil is sent to the flushing stage.

As a result, a separate product is obtained – raw palm oil. And after further processing – refined bleached deodorized palm oil. It is important that the refining oil refining is carried out without the use of chemical reagents.

Myth # 2. The oil is not absorbed by the human body.

Some negligent journalists even use such expressions as “not soluble in the body.” For that experts of nutrition, biotechnology and food safety (Earlier, RAMS) love to respond that the fat and bread also do not dissolve in the body, but they are digested there in some way. All because a huge number of enzymes participate in the digestive process, thanks to them all the food (and the more vegetable palm oil) is absorbed and digested in our gastrointestinal tract.

Myth # 3. Butter clogs the vessels, as they accumulate on their walls.

In fact, palm oil, like all vegetable fats, does not contain cholesterol. And if we are talking about a healthy person, then falling into his body, palm oil behaves neutrally towards the “bad” and “good” cholesterol. Thus, the consumption of palm oil does not lead to the formation of cholesterol plaques.

Accordingly, the palm oil itself does not block the vessels.

And spreads based on vegetable oils are considered a healthy alternative to butter. So, a few years ago, the results of the experiment were published, which was conducted by the authorities of North Karelia (Finland) [1]. Residents of this region replaced the creamy oil in the diet of nutrition on the basis of vegetable oils.

As a result, over 40 years, the average life expectancy of the Finns increased by 13 years, and the risk of cardiovascular diseases decreased by 7 times.

Myth about the harmful properties of palm oil has not justified itself. On the contrary, the general public knows the beneficial properties of tropical oils, in particular palm. Raw (red) palm oil exceeds sunflower oil in both the amount of vitamin E and by a variety of torotrienols (vitamin E components) in its composition.

By the number of carotenoids (including vitamin A predecessors), palm oil significantly exceeds other vegetable oils (in which they are contained in small quantities) and even fish oil, being a record holder among products.

In the experiments on the rats it was shown that carotene concentrations are growing in the internal organs. A large number of carotene, according to the authors of the study of palm oil, reduces the likelihood of cancer [2]. That is, palm oil – an anticarcinogenic product! ors

Myth # 4. The oil contains transductions.

This thesis contradicts common sense. After all, it is known that transzomers of fatty acids appear in the process of hydrogenation of vegetable oil – when moving from liquid into a solid state. Striving by chemical terms, during the saturation of double (triple) carbon-carbon ties with hydrogen.

This can occur both in the process of industrial hydrogenation – in the production of hydrogenated fats, salograms and in the body of ruminant animals. For example, in a two-chamber stomach of cows in the RubE, transzomers of fatty acids are formed. However, P.
