Mitsubishi Karisma 2002 – owner review.

Good day. My review will not be about the most popular car. Japanese Dutch assembly, which ceased to be produced in 2003, and also with a terrible and unusual engine “GDI”. From a small excursion into history: Karisma was produced in Holland, a joint venture of NedCar and MMS. In 2001 they underwent restyling.

In Russia, they were officially sold by Rolf, while the car is purely European, in Japan they were not produced at all. According to the manufacturer, this is something between a Galant and a Lancer. Engine options – a completely vegetable 1.3, a problem-free 1.6 “4G92” for about 100 forces, 4G93 GDI with direct injection and a high-pressure fuel pump for 128 forces (“gasoline diesel”) and a real diesel, which are practically nonexistent in the Russian Federation. It was produced in the bodies of a liftback and a sedan, while the design of the sedan is very controversial.

I got a 2002 restyled car with a GDI engine in the back of a liftback, an acquaintance sold it for 230 tons. (spring 2015). This was my first car, in addition to which I received a broken suspension, half of the electrics not working, a battered and damaged body, but a fresh contract engine. During the year of operation, the car drove about 30 tons. Km, rolled in Sochi and St.

Petersburg, the rest of Moscow and Moscow Region. The total mileage of the body is 290 t. Km on the odometer, the motor has about 100 t. Km. There were many problems, but fortunately, there were no situations for her to just get up. Even when the alternator belt broke, I drove about 100 km on it.

Let’s get down to business. The body on all carisms is galvanized, therefore, when

trouble-free operation and the absence of a collective farm, despite the age, there should not be any rust and rot. However, there is a weak point – this is the water in the cabin and trunk. It can leak from anywhere: from the washer, from under the rubber bands of the doors, from under the antenna, technological holes, windshield, etc.

Naturally, moisture does not contribute to the safety of the body, so this should always be closely monitored. My karisma beat in the ass by the previous owner, was overcooked and badly digested. As a result, because of the bumper in the rain, water almost poured into the trunk under the trim in a stream, which was not immediately discovered, as a result – a rotten arch from the inside.

Salon. Of course, this is not a Mercedes, the design is a bit archaic, but the car was considered a class higher than the Lancer, therefore, in most of the options presented, it is rich in equipment. Electric drives for mirrors and windows, heated seats, climate control, headlight washer and corrector, front and rear foglights, on-board computer, etc. In addition, very comfortable seats and a decent steering wheel. There is also enough space in the cabin, two people in the back sit very comfortably, and there are almost no squeaks and crickets for 14 years of operation.

Soundproofing is also at the level, of course, this is not a business class, but it is quite possible to talk calmly. There are no complaints about the automatic box and cannot be. An ordinary 4-speed Japanese man who walks hundreds of thousands of kilometers without any problems.

Of course it dulls a little, but within the normal range, after getting used to it, it generally seems like a fairy tale. During all this time

operation only changed the oil. There are a lot of complaints about the mechanics, the profile forum is half filled with topics about its repair. Therefore, if Karisma is only a machine gun. 4G93 GDI engine.

On the Internet, the opinion about this motor is rather negative, due to the difficult operation and in practice this opinion is rather confirmed. The motor can be called high-torque for a vegetable. 128 HP, at 1.8 liters and 1.2 tons, the car picks up the car very well, after Russian cars and new budget foreign cars, you even feel some kind of sportiness. This is the only reason why it is worth taking Karizma with this motor (although the owners of the usual 1.6 MPI say that it is not much inferior to the “Jedi” in sharpness), now about the cons.

Of course, these are operational problems: only 95th gasoline and only at branded gas stations, candles that run at 40 tons. and cost 800 rubles. apiece, constant carbon deposits from low-quality fuel and a clogged throttle, USR, collectors, catalysts and failing lambdas (this despite the fact that refueling in Moscow and at the most expensive gas stations). And of course the worst thing is the high pressure fuel pump. Probably not this you expect when you buy an old “Japanese”? The car simply does not digest our gasoline.

But another thing is even worse: most of the services simply refuse to repair them or simply cannot identify the problem. In Moscow, for example, there is only one service that is guaranteed to find and fix the problem (tested by bitter experience). It is worth it.

There is one more small, but a plus. Find a contract

the engine is not a problem, they cost 25-30 tons. A new engine was installed on my car in 2014, the real mileage is about 50 tons. Km.

It should be noted that no one sews Jedi motors in Russia, their tuning is in no way possible, only a full swap. The car’s suspension is quite stiff and, unfortunately, not the most reliable. The car moves around Moscow almost all the time (the quality of the roads is almost European), and it has been shaken up for the second time in a year.

And not just bushings and ball, but levers, struts, pillows, rods. Perhaps, of course, it’s a matter of low-quality analogs. Brakes and handling. The braking system is excellent.

Both front and rear discs, brakes very effectively, the ABS does not blunt when necessary helps out. The car’s handling is also excellent for its class, excellent road holding, very good cornering at high speeds. The steering wheel is quite tight (after a modern car it seems that there is no amplifier at all in Karism), but personally I like it, the car does not fall from every touch, while it is very obedient. Exploitation. The prices for spare parts are not very encouraging.

At the same time, the quality of some analogues leaves much to be desired, the originals cost cosmic money, sometimes you have to play Russian roulette. Over the course of a year, the car has been replaced: laying of spark plug wells with valve cover gaskets (disease karism – oil in the wells), lambda, throttle repair (magnet fell off, disease karism), alternator belt (torn), complete timing belt, brake discs and pads, rear

shock absorbers, rear lambda, parking brake cables (disease karism), almost all stabilizers, rear and front levers, engine mountings, all gas filters, coils and tips, plugs twice, damper, engine and injectors cleaned. A high-pressure fuel pump and a fuel pump in the tank are on the way. Further, the cost of some spare parts (exist Moscow time): Timing belt (analog) – 1200 Timing belt tensioner (original) – 5 tons. Pump (analog) – 2 tons. Front pads (Brembo) 2 tons Lambda kit – 2 tons Alternator belt (original) – 600 rubles.

Front arm (analog) – 2.5 tons. Rear spring – 1300 r. The new injection pump costs about half the car. Supported by 8-15 t. P. There are also craftsmen who sort them out.

Gasoline consumption: highway 5.5-7 liters, city 9-12, depending on the style and health of the car. Of the typical diseases, an electrician can still be noted. Problems with BC, climate, signal, electric drives occur quite often.

But these are trifles associated with age and careless exploitation. To make the operation of this car less problematic, I will give a couple of tips from my own experience: do not ride on an empty tank, the gas pump fails. Refuel only 95 and only at proven gas stations, change filters more often, carefully approach the choice of oil. Be sure to cut out the catalysts, since they will give you problems, and put a snag on the second lambda (the car will take on a new life). to sum up, in spite of everything, I like the car. Its “kakby” sportiness, uniqueness and character. And the growl of the exhaust after removing the catalyst delivers incomparable pleasure (closing your eyes you can feel like Colin McRae).

And despite the fact that for a year of operation only for repairs, I invested half of its real cost in it, I can say that if now I had a choice of what to take for that kind of money, I would take it again. Although I fully admit that the matter here is trite in the absence of sufficient information for comparison with other cars)
